Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has won a ₦20 million lawsuit over a false publication that linked her to politician Dino Melaye.
The Lagos High Court ruled in her favour after she sued a news platform and its reporter for publishing a story that invaded her privacy. The article, released on January 18, 2023, listed her among six actresses allegedly dating the politician.
The court ordered the platform to pay her ₦20 million in damages and remove her name and photo from the publication.
Celebrating the victory on Instagram, Adunni said the judgment was her second court win and promised to reveal the identity of the actress who allegedly leaked the false story to bloggers.
“I won my case. A false story was published about me, but truth stood tall,” she wrote. “This judgment reaffirms that privacy and integrity matter. Many thanks to my lawyer, Olumide Babalola.”
She added, “To the actress who fed false stories to the blogger, the world will soon know who you really are. Envy and bitterness live in you.”
Adunni also hinted that she has more ongoing court cases against similar reports.
In May, the actress had threatened legal action against another blog for publishing fake stories about her marriage.
Adunni Ade, who was born to an American mother and Nigerian father, is a single mother of two boys. She previously revealed she was never married to her children’s father, ending their eight-year relationship because “it was never going to work out.”
