Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade is expected to leave Atletico Madrid Femení this summer as her contract nears its end.
The 25-year-old forward has spent four seasons with the Spanish club, scoring 40 goals in 136 games. This season alone, she has found the net six times and assisted three more in 19 matches, helping Atletico sit third in the Spanish Women’s League with 27 games played.
According to Soccerdonna, Ajibade will not renew her contract, and the club has already begun looking for a replacement.
Reports suggest she could be headed to the United States, where Nigeria teammate Asisat Oshoala now plays after moving from Barcelona to Bay FC in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). While no specific team has been confirmed for Ajibade, a move to the NWSL seems likely, as the league continues to attract top players from around the world.
Ajibade, who has played 29 times for Nigeria and scored five goals, is also expected to play a big role in the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
She remains one of Nigeria’s top female footballers and a player to watch as she takes the next step in her career.
