Alex Ekubo’s Final Journey: Family announces burial arrangements

The family of late Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, has announced the funeral arrangements for the movie star.

Ekubo, who died on May 11 at the age of 40, will be buried on June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State, according to funeral details released by the family on his official Instagram page.

The burial programme showed that a service of songs will be held on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos.

The event is scheduled to hold between 4pm and 6pm, with guests expected to wear white.

A wake will follow on June 17 at the family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.

The funeral service and interment will take place on June 18 in Arochukwu, followed by a reception at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village.

In the statement, the family said Ekubo’s life was deeply impactful and thanked friends, colleagues, fans and well-wishers for the support shown since his passing.

“With profound sorrow, yet gratitude to God for a life so beautifully lived and deeply impactful, we officially announce the funeral arrangements of our beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and colleague, Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement read.

The family said the outpouring of love, prayers, visits, calls and messages had been humbling.

It added that Ekubo’s kindness, faith, compassion and impact would not be forgotten.

“Alexx was deeply loved, and your kindness continues to remind us that his light, compassion, faith, and impact on so many lives will never be forgotten,” the family said.

The family also invited relatives, friends, colleagues, fans and well-wishers to join them in celebrating the actor’s life and legacy.

“We warmly invite family, friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers to join us as we honour and celebrate his beautiful life, enduring legacy, and the precious memories he gave us all,” the statement added.

The family further asked the public to keep his wife and relatives in their prayers during the mourning period.

Ekubo’s death threw Nollywood into mourning, with several colleagues and fans paying tribute to the actor after the family confirmed that he died from complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Born in Port Harcourt and originally from Arochukwu in Abia State, Ekubo rose to prominence after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria pageant before moving fully into acting.

He featured in several Nollywood productions, including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
