Alexander Isak has said an emotional goodbye to Newcastle United after completing his British-record £125m move to Liverpool, but fans are angry over the club’s “cold” farewell.
The 25-year-old striker, who fired Newcastle to their first domestic trophy in 70 years with a goal in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, wrote a heartfelt message on Instagram thanking his teammates, staff, and supporters for “three unforgettable years.”
But while Isak showed his appreciation, Newcastle announced his exit with what many fans described as the “shortest and coldest goodbye ever” — a 37-word statement.
The move has divided opinion online. Some supporters believe the club should have honoured the striker who delivered silverware and Champions League football, while others insist the short statement was fair since Isak made it clear he wanted to leave this summer.
Either way, Isak’s farewell has sparked one of the biggest talking points of the transfer window, as Liverpool welcome their new record signing.
