Algeria secured the bronze medal at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday following a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout victory over host nation Morocco. The match moved straight to spot-kicks after ending in a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.

Morocco opened the match with early intent, hitting the crossbar in the 17th minute through Ibtissam Jraidi before taking a deserved lead in the 26th minute via a goal from Kautar Azraf. Algeria fought back in the closing stages, finding an equalizer in the 83rd minute when Melissa Bethi played a precise through ball to Boussaha, who calmly finished past the goalkeeper.

Algeria held their nerve in the subsequent shootout to claim a 3-2 victory, securing a historic podium finish at the tournament while Morocco ended their campaign in fourth place.
