Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has met with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie ahead of her headline performance at the country’s 50th Independence Day anniversary celebration.
The Mavin Records star, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, arrived in Seychelles as one of the international artistes billed to perform during the nation’s Golden Jubilee events.
Ayra Starr is scheduled to perform on Monday at Stad Popiler, where thousands of fans are expected to gather for the Independence Day show.
During the courtesy visit, President Herminie welcomed the 24-year-old singer and expressed appreciation to her for joining Seychelles in celebrating a major national milestone.
The president described the 50th Independence anniversary as a moment of pride for the island nation, highlighting its progress, culture, unity and friendship with other countries.
Ayra Starr’s visit also reflects the growing influence of Nigerian music across Africa and beyond, as Afrobeats continues to attract global attention.
Singer praises Seychelles hospitality
In a video from the meeting, Ayra Starr thanked the government and people of Seychelles for the warm welcome she received after arriving in the country.
The singer said she was excited to be part of the celebration and promised fans an energetic performance.
“My name is Ayra Starr, from Lagos, Nigeria. I am so happy to be in the Seychelles. Expect star girl energy, expect to have fun, expect to dance, to lose your voice by singing loudly, and just expect to have a good time,” she said.
She also praised the beauty of Seychelles and the hospitality of the people, saying she could already feel the love from fans.
“If you want to see me sing, you come on Monday. Shout out to the Seychelles people, you guys are amazing. I just got in today, and I feel all the love, and I can’t wait to see you on Monday,” she added.
Ayra Starr rose to prominence in 2021 with her hit single Bloody Samaritan and has since become one of Nigeria’s most successful young music stars.
Signed to Mavin Records, the singer has earned several local and international nominations while building a strong fan base with her sound, fashion and stage presence.
Her performance in Seychelles is expected to add more colour to the country’s Independence Day celebration and further strengthen the international reach of Afrobeats.
The event is part of activities marking Seychelles’ 50 years of independence, with music, culture and national pride at the centre of the celebration.
