Nigerian actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has dismissed claims that crossdresser Bobrisky received special treatment while serving her prison sentence for naira abuse.
In 2024, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison. Controversy arose after activist VeryDarkMan shared an alleged audio recording in which Bobrisky claimed that human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, Falz, contacted her to secure a presidential pardon in exchange for N10 million. This sparked speculation that she did not serve her sentence in custody. Bobrisky denied the claims and threatened legal action over alleged defamation.
In an interview on Talk To B, Baba Ijesha insisted that Bobrisky served her sentence fully in prison, struggling during the initial days. He refuted reports that she stayed in a hotel, saying he witnessed her time in custody firsthand.
According to Ijesha, Bobrisky is generous and often shared food with other inmates, highlighting that her public image does not reflect her true personality.
“Bobrisky was in prison. On the second day he arrived, he started crying and quickly got tired. Aside from what people say about him being a crossdresser, he is a reliable person,” he said.
“If they bring him food, he shares it with others. There are a lot of lies on social media; they claimed Bobrisky was in a hotel. Which hotel? We were together. It was his mum who brought food for him; she would cook for about 1,000 prisoners and cry. The female outfits he wears are to make money; aside from that, he is a kind person.”
Baba Ijesha was released in November 2025 after completing his jail term. The actor was arraigned on June 24, 2021, on a six-count charge including indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault. On July 14, 2022, a Lagos High Court sentenced him to 16 years’ imprisonment, which ran concurrently, meaning he spent about five years behind bars.
