Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has emerged as the leading candidate for the 2026 Ballon d’Or following the conclusion of the club season and FIFA World Cup.
The latest GOAL power ranking places Kane ahead of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal and eight-time winner Lionel Messi.
The ranking is an editorial prediction and should not be confused with an official Ballon d’Or shortlist or voting result.
The 2026 winner will be announced in London on October 26 as the award celebrates its 70th anniversary. It will be the first ceremony held in the English capital. Ballon d’Or organisers said the location honours Stanley Matthews, the award’s inaugural winner.

10. Pau Cubarsí — Barcelona and Spain
Cubarsí played an important role in Barcelona’s domestic success before emerging as one of Spain’s standout defenders at the World Cup. The 19-year-old helped Spain maintain an impressive defensive record and was named the tournament’s Best Young Player.
9. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia — Paris Saint-Germain and Georgia
Kvaratskhelia produced several decisive performances during PSG’s successful Champions League campaign. However, Georgia’s failure to qualify for the World Cup may weaken his challenge against players who impressed in North America.
8. Erling Haaland — Manchester City and Norway
Haaland recorded 58 goals and 11 assists as Manchester City won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He strengthened his case further by scoring seven times during Norway’s historic run to the World Cup quarter-finals.
7. Ousmane Dembélé — Paris Saint-Germain and France
The reigning Ballon d’Or holder overcame early-season injury problems to help PSG retain the Champions League. He also scored six World Cup goals, but France’s failure to reach the final may prevent him from winning consecutive awards.

Olise combined 26 goals with 41 assists during a remarkable campaign for Bayern. The former Crystal Palace winger also registered seven assists at the World Cup, demonstrating that his creativity could influence games at the highest level.
3. Lionel Messi — Inter Miami and Argentina
Messi returned to serious Ballon d’Or contention after leading Inter Miami to their first MLS Cup. The 39-year-old also scored eight goals and provided four assists as Argentina reached another World Cup final.
Although Argentina lost to Spain, Messi’s performances showed that he remains capable of shaping major tournaments. A ninth Ballon d’Or would extend a record that may never be matched.

Yamal won La Liga and the World Cup during another outstanding season. However, injuries restricted his influence during important periods, while teammates such as Cubarsí and Rodri produced more defining performances for Spain in North America.
