Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has praised Afrobeats star Davido for holding a successful concert in Yola, Adamawa State, describing the move as a bold and unifying step for Nigeria.
In a post shared on X, Ahmad admitted that although he is a proud member of Wizkid FC and often disagrees with Davido, he was deeply impressed by the singer’s decision to perform in Northern Nigeria despite the negative stereotypes surrounding the region.
“Though on several occasions I don’t share opinions with Davido, in fact, I am a well-known member of Wizkid FC. However, I must commend him for taking his concert to Yola, Adamawa,” Ahmad wrote.
He criticized the widespread perception that the North is unsafe, noting that such narratives are often spread by people who have never visited the region. Ahmad said Davido’s successful concert, held without any security incident helped challenge those misconceptions.
“Had Davido consulted with such people before his decision to go to Yola, they would have discouraged him with all sorts of frightening tales… However, he went ahead and successfully held the concert, with thousands in attendance and without a single incident,” he added.
Ahmad also urged other major Nigerian artists, including Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, and Asake, to follow Davido’s example by performing in Northern cities, where millions of loyal fans are eager to experience live shows.
“Music is one of the strongest unifying forces we have as a country,” he said. “Davido’s concert in Yola is a clear reminder that Nigeria works better when we choose to see beyond stereotypes and embrace one another in our shared love for art, culture, and humanity.”
