Nigerian star Bella Shmurda says that producing and promoting an album nowadays has become a huge financial burden for artists. In a recent interview, he revealed that even the minimum cost of a music video is around N20 million, making it difficult for many musicians to shoot multiple videos for an album.
He explained that while singles might be manageable, releasing a full album typically 10 to 14 songs requires an enormous budget. The expense covers radio promotion, video shoots for several tracks and other marketing efforts.
Bella emphasised:
“Promoting songs on the radio, shooting videos for five, six songs, is a lot. These days, the least you can spend on a music video is N20 million. So, how many artists can afford to shooting five videos?”
His message raises concerns about the sustainability of album releases in Nigeria’s music industry, especially for emerging artists who may not have deep pockets.
