Nigerian skit maker Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel, popularly known as Shank Comics, has sparked reactions by claiming that comedians Bovi Ugboma and Basketmouth are wealthier than some of Nigeria’s top Afrobeats stars, including Asake and Wizkid.
During a livestream, Shank explained that while the comedians prefer to live modestly, their financial standing should not be underestimated.
“I feel like comedy money is more. I can swear to God, Bovi, Basketmouth, they’re f*cking richer than Asake. Bovi doesn’t just like cars. If Bovi sees a Lexus, he’s okay. All those Ferraris and high speed on the express? Bovi doesn’t care. Comedians care about their lives, that’s why. I swear to God, Bovi and Basketmouth are richer than Asake and Wizkid, but they don’t just like cars. All those Ferrari and rubbish Burna Boy is buying, Bovi doesn’t focus on that. How much is Ferrari? How much is Lamborghini? Is it not just to charge it?” he said.
Shank’s statement has reignited conversations about the net worth of Nigeria’s entertainers, with some agreeing and others disputing his claims.
