A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale shook Leyte Island in the Philippines on Tuesday.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the quake, which struck at a shallow depth of 11 kilometres. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a tsunami.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a region known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.
