Maverick Nigerian singer, Olawale Olofooro, known professionally as Brymo, has declared that it is high time for the country to start actively considering an Igbo presidency. The musician, who faced massive public backlash during the 2023 presidential campaign for his anti-Igbo remarks, said citizens must now let go of historical grievances and embrace national reconciliation.
However, the songwriter warned that the rising tide of insecurity across the South-east geopolitical zone might ultimately derail the region’s quest for the executive office. He argued that several prominent interest groups in Nigeria have systematically weaponized violent militancy as a tool for political bargaining.
The controversial artist also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that the leader actively prevented the South-west security outfit, Amotekun, from transforming into a dangerous separatist group. Brymo maintained that checking ethnic militias remains vital to maintaining the structural integrity of the Nigerian federation.

“I think it is high time for Igbo presidency. It is time for Nigeria to start considering Igbo presidency. Let’s let go of the past and reconcile our differences and unit as a nation,” Brymo said during an interview with Yanga FM Lagos.
The vocalist lamented that continuous unrest in the eastern region creates an unfavorable political climate for democratic power rotation. He criticized the modern political strategy of using civil disruptions to extort leadership positions from the central government.
“But how will we get there if the South-east is also slowly descending into chaos? Anytime any group in Nigeria wants presidency, they will start militancy. That is what is going on. If you want presidency, start kidnapping and insecurity,” Brymo added.
