Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has become the African artiste with the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart.
The Afrobeats star achieved the milestone after his collaboration with Colombian singer Shakira on the official World Cup song, “Dai Dai,” entered the chart this week.
Burna Boy Overtakes Tems
Before the latest entry, Burna Boy was tied with fellow Nigerian singer, Tems, for the record.
His appearance on “Dai Dai” has now pushed him ahead, making him the African artiste with the highest number of Billboard Hot 100 entries.
The feat further strengthens Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s most globally successful music stars.
World Cup Song Boosts Record
“Dai Dai” gained fresh momentum after Burna Boy and Shakira performed the song at the World Cup opening ceremony.
The performance gave the track wider international attention and helped drive its chart success.
The song has also reportedly crossed 100 million views, adding to its growing global appeal.
Six-Year Billboard Run
Burna Boy also became the first African artiste to chart at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years.
The latest achievement adds to a long list of international milestones for the Nigerian superstar, who has continued to carry Afrobeats to global audiences.
Burna Boy, who won a Grammy Award for his album “Twice As Tall,” has become one of the leading African voices in world music.
His latest Billboard record comes as Nigerian music continues to enjoy major influence on the global stage.
