Chelsea star Raheem Sterling was attacked at home after masked burglars broke into his house while his children were inside.
The frightening incident happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday — about an hour before Chelsea’s Premier League game against Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
According to Daily Mail Sport, Sterling, 30, grabbed a kitchen knife to defend himself and his two sons, Thiago, eight, and Thai Cruz, six, during the break-in.
The burglars, who were reportedly surprised to find anyone at home, ran off before stealing anything.
A spokesperson for Sterling confirmed the attack, saying:
“Raheem Sterling was the victim of a home break-in this weekend. He and his children were present at the time. Whilst it was a huge violation of privacy and safety, we are thankful that he and his loved ones are all safe.”
Police in Thames Valley said they are investigating and have asked anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
Chelsea have also confirmed they are supporting the player.
This is not the first time Sterling’s home has been targeted. In 2022, he left England’s World Cup camp in Qatar after his Surrey home was raided and about £300,000 worth of jewellery and watches were stolen.
Investigators later linked that case to a group of burglars suspected of breaking into more than 30 luxury homes in southern England.
