Grammy-winning R&B artist Chris Brown has been remanded in custody in the United Kingdom following charges of grievous bodily harm with intent. The charges stem from an alleged incident in February 2023 at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, where Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle and subsequently stomping on him.

Brown, 36, was arrested by Metropolitan Police officers at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester on May 15, 2025, shortly after arriving in the UK for his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour. He appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16, where he was denied bail due to the severity of the charges and concerns over potential flight risk.  The case has been transferred to Southwark Crown Court, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 13, 2025.

The alleged victim, Abe Diaw, claims to have suffered permanent physical damage and emotional distress from the assault.  In addition to the criminal proceedings, Diaw has filed a civil lawsuit seeking £12 million (approximately $16 million) in damages related to the incident.

This arrest adds to Brown’s history of legal issues, including his 2009 felony assault conviction involving singer Rihanna.  The current charges could significantly impact his ongoing tour plans and further affect his public image.

As the legal process unfolds, Brown remains in custody, and the music industry watches closely to see how these developments will influence his career trajectory.
