Italian football legend Ciro Ferrara has praised Ademola Lookman for choosing to remain at Atalanta, insisting the Nigerian forward made the right call by rejecting a potential move to Inter Milan.

Inter were reportedly keen on signing Lookman during the summer transfer window but ultimately pulled out of negotiations after refusing to meet Atalanta’s €50 million valuation.

Speaking to DAZN (via FCInter1908), Ferrara said that while Lookman’s quality is undeniable, his playing style may not have fit seamlessly into Cristian Chivu’s tactical system at Inter.

“Lookman is a fantastic player with speed, flair, and creativity, but he would have found it difficult to adapt to Chivu’s structure at Inter,” Ferrara noted. “At Atalanta, he has more freedom to express himself and take risks in attack. Staying was the right decision for his career.”

Lookman has continued to impress under Gian Piero Gasperini, building on his strong performances from last season. The 26-year-old has become a key figure for the Bergamo side, known for his decisive contributions in both domestic and European competitions.

Ferrara added that Atalanta’s system allows Lookman to “shine in transition” and make the most of his one-on-one ability — traits that might have been limited in Inter’s more structured approach.

With Atalanta pushing for another strong Serie A campaign, Lookman’s decision to stay looks increasingly justified, as he remains one of the most dynamic and influential attackers in Italian football.
