Renowned comedian Reggie Carroll, better known as the “Knockout King of Comedy,” was tragically shot and killed in Southaven, Mississippi, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Despite valiant life-saving efforts at the scene, Carroll, aged 52, could not be revived.
Authorities have arrested a male suspect, who has since been charged with Carroll’s murder. The Southaven Police Department categorized the incident as an “isolated” shooting and have not disclosed a motive.
A beloved figure in the comedy world, Carroll rose to prominence with appearances on Showtime at the Apollo and The Parkers, and in his 2023 flagship special, Knockout Kings of Comedy. He frequently toured, winning fans nationwide and building a loyal following.
The comedy community and admirers have been paying respects following the devastating loss. Oscar winner Mo’Nique, a close collaborator and friend, remembered him as her “brother in comedy,” cherishing their time touring together. Meanwhile, Carroll’s brother Jonathan extended heartfelt thanks for the public’s condolences. Baltimore’s Club Mobtown Comedy also voiced deep sorrow, calling him a vital pillar of their creative community.
