Afrobeats is many things, but it’s never short on drama. Dammy Krane just poured petrol on his long-standing beef with Davido and lit the match.

The singer, Dammy Krane announced his new EP titled “5ive”, set to drop on April 18 — the exact day Davido’s own album, also named “5ive,” is due for release.

Yes. You read that right. The same title. The same release date. The same smoke..

This isn’t the first time Krane has poked the bear. Back in 2023, he accused Davido of owing him for songwriting credits. He even dragged OBO into the murky past of Tagbo Umeike’s death — a situation that triggered lawsuits and bitter social media exchanges.

At one point, Davido even threatened legal action for “defamation and cyberbullying.” Things escalated last year when Krane claimed Davido orchestrated his arrest. After spending days in police custody, Krane walked out a free man and, surprisingly, issued an apology. But as this latest stunt shows, forgiveness might’ve been temporary — or performative. Social media? On fire.

“I would really love to know the amount of money Davido owes Dammy Krane for him to create this much enmity.” —@abolajieeddriss It’s giving obsession. It’s giving attention-seeking.

But it’s also giving bold marketing in an industry where controversy sells faster than talent. Dammy Krane is playing chess — or at least, he thinks he is. Whether the music bangs or backfires is left to be seen. But what’s certain?

April 18 is shaping up to be a heavyweight clash. And in the middle of it all, two old rivals will once again fight for the attention of an audience that loves drama just as much as good music.
