Nigerian megastar Davido pays a touching tribute to the late legend Sound Sultan in his latest video for “10 Kilo.” Directed by the creative Director Pink, the visual features powerful imagery plus-size models dancing in front of a prominent portrait of Sound Sultan—echoing the body-positive themes he championed in his iconic track “Orobo.”
The homage is especially poignant: “10 Kilo” embraces and celebrates fuller-figured women, drawing lyrical inspiration from the uplifting message of “Orobo.” Sound Sultan’s 2013 remix of “Orobo” with Flavour remains a beloved classic across Nigeria and West Africa.
Sound Sultan, who passed away in July 2021 after battling cancer, is widely regarded as one of the trailblazers of modern Afrobeats, with hits like Jagabantis, Natural Something, Ole, Kokose, Orobo, and Very Good Bad Guy shaping the genre’s foundation. This heartfelt nod by Davido adds to the many tributes the late star has received from artists over the years.
