Walt Disney is set to reduce its workforce by up to 1,000 employees in the coming weeks, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.
The cuts, expected to largely impact the company’s marketing department, were reportedly planned before Josh D’Amaro assumed the role of Disney CEO in March 2026.
The layoffs would affect less than 1% of Disney’s total workforce, which stood at approximately 231,000 at the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
In addition, Disney’s newly appointed Chief Marketing Officer, Asad Ayaz, is spearheading a company-wide unification of the marketing team under a cost-reduction initiative code-named Project Imagine. Ayaz has been overseeing the newly created marketing organization since January.
The company says the restructuring is aimed at streamlining operations and improving efficiency across its global marketing efforts.
