Nigerian disc jockey and record producer Imohiosen Patrick, professionally known as DJ Neptune, has raised concerns that Artificial Intelligence (AI) may soon make music producers redundant.

Speaking with media personality N6, who recently issued a similar warning on X, DJ Neptune recounted how he almost signed an artist after hearing a song, only to discover it had been entirely AI-generated.

“After listening, I told the guy to sign the artist because what I heard was incredible,” he said. “Then I was told it was AI work. It shook me.”

N6 had earlier tweeted:

“AI is quietly about to retire the entire music production and mastering industry. I have seen scary tinz tonight. God help all of us in this ecosystem.”

AI is increasingly being integrated into the music-making process, with musicians, producers, and sound engineers using it to enhance beats, sound, and vocals.

In response to the rise of AI in music, the Recording Academy has updated its rules, allowing works with AI contributions to qualify for Grammy Awards, provided there is sufficient human input.

Nevertheless, many industry stakeholders continue to advocate for keeping music predominantly “human,” emphasizing concerns over authenticity, creativity, and authorship.
