Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has added her voice to the ongoing debate over new methods of movie promotion in the industry.
The discussion gained attention after some filmmakers expressed reservations about the trend where actors and producers use dance routines and skits to market their films. Director Kunle Afolayan recently sparked controversy when he stated at a public event that he would not participate in such promotional activities, unlike actress Funke Akindele. Funke later responded online and reportedly contacted Kunle directly to challenge his remarks.
In the midst of the debate, Iyabo Ojo, while promoting her latest movie, took to Instagram to encourage creatives to follow their own style. She questioned, “Who made the rules?” and advised that everyone should do whatever works best for them.
Her post reflects a growing sentiment among Nollywood stars that there is no single way to promote films, and that innovation and personal style should guide promotional efforts.
