Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal as the Gunners eased past Port Vale on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old, who joined from Crystal Palace in the summer, was handed a central attacking role and impressed with a lively performance.
Eze’s goal came after a neat team move, with Myles Lewis-Skelly flicking on a Gabriel Martinelli cross for him to finish calmly. He was also heavily involved in midfield play, linking up attacks and troubling the Vale defence throughout the game.
His display has sparked debate about whether Mikel Arteta should use him more in the No. 10 position, especially with captain Martin Odegaard returning from injury and Mikel Merino also an option.
Arteta praised Eze after the game but said he still needs time to fully adapt to the team. “He played very sensibly, was very capable,” the manager said. “He needs to play more times with those guys to understand the timings and actions so he will be more consistent and successful with us.”
Arsenal face Newcastle United on Sunday, and fans will be watching to see if Eze keeps his place in the central role.
