Fans panic as Lionel Richie,77, abandons concert midway after feeling ‘dizzy’

American singer Lionel Richie left fans worried after he was forced to cut short a concert in Minnesota following a dizzy spell during his performance.

Richie was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul when he reportedly began feeling unwell while singing his hit song, Dancing on the Ceiling.

Videos shared on social media showed the veteran entertainer trying to continue the performance despite appearing uncomfortable.

He later sat down on stage, raising concern among fans in the arena.

Richie unable to continue concert

After the incident, Richie moved to the piano to perform another fan favourite, Three Times a Lady.

However, he later took an unscheduled break from the stage.

Moments after he left, his saxophonist, Dino Soldo, informed the audience that the singer was not feeling well and would be unable to continue the show.

Fans reportedly applauded in support after learning about Richie’s condition.

Many also took to social media to express concern and send prayers to the music icon.

Opening night with Earth, Wind & Fire affected

The concert was the opening night of Richie’s latest tour with the legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire.

The tour is expected to feature 26 performances across several cities in the United States and run through mid-August.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been released on the exact nature of Richie’s illness.

Organisers had also not announced whether any future tour dates would be postponed or cancelled.

Richie, 77, remains one of the most celebrated figures in global music, with a career spanning more than five decades.

He rose to fame as a member of the Commodores before launching a hugely successful solo career.
