Nigerian musician Seun Kuti, youngest son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, has called on the federal government to jail pastors who perform “staged” miracles.
Speaking during a live video, Seun accused some pastors of claiming to perform miracles that cannot be verified in hospitals. He urged the government to make a law requiring anyone claiming a miracle to reproduce it under medical supervision.
“A law should be made to ensure that no one is allowed to perform miracles, and anyone caught claiming to perform a miracle should be sent to jail. The only exception would be if the miracle can be proven at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). They should perform the miracle for ten people at LUTH. I do not want to hear about fake miracles,” Seun said.
He added that pastors who fail to prove their miracles should face severe penalties, including long prison sentences. “If a person is unable to perform the miracle, they should be sentenced to fifty years in prison,” he said.
The musician’s remarks have already sparked debate on social media, with Nigerians divided over his call for government regulation of miracles and religious practices.
