Afrobeats superstar Davido recently opened up about a defining chapter in his life one that began with a risky move and culminated in triumph. In 2011, the young artist skipped university classes at Babcock University to perform in Ibadan during the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. He didn’t expect the performance to air on national television, and his father’s reaction was harsh.

Fast-forward 14 years, and that same city became the stage for one of his most memorable shows yet part of his 5ive Alive Tour across Nigeria. Davido described his return to Ibadan as a “full-circle moment,” proud of how far he’s come.

At the Ibadan leg of the tour, the stadium was packed to capacity and the energy electric. Davido thanked his team, sponsors, and fans, and urged his peers: “Let’s build back home and give back to our roots.”

His post on X went viral, with fans applauding him for authenticity, resilience, and humility. Comments poured in:

“From skipping school in 2011 to selling out stadiums now, that glow-up is everything.”

Next on the tour: Abuja, Lagos and then the U.S. for his birthday concert in Atlanta.

Davido’s journey is a reminder that early risks, when paired with persistence and home-grown roots, can lead to major wins.
