British boxing star Tyson Fury has dropped a big hint that he may be returning to the ring—and fans are hoping it leads to a long-awaited fight with Anthony Joshua.
The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion shared a 12-second video on social media where he’s seen training in a gym with his coach SugarHill Steward. In the clip, Fury says, “Just in the gym. Bumped into someone you might know.” Then he turns the camera to Steward, who smiles and says, “You know what time it is.” Fury ends with a tease: “You know what’s coming.”
Fury retired from boxing in January after losing back-to-back fights to Oleksandr Usyk. But many fans and experts never believed he was truly done, as this isn’t his first short retirement.
Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua’s fights, had earlier suggested Fury’s retirement might just be a strategy to build hype—and raise the price—for a major showdown with Joshua.
Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua is also back in training after recovering from surgery. He had suffered a fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September. Joshua spent some time in Nigeria for rehab and recently thanked the country in an Instagram post for its “energy, generosity and kindness.”
There have been talks of a September fight between Fury and Joshua. Saudi Arabia’s boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is believed to be working hard to make the blockbuster event happen. The fight could earn over £170 million through TV rights, ticket sales, sponsorship deals, and merchandise.
Joshua’s promoter, Hearn, also mentioned last month that the 35-year-old could be nearing the end of his career.
“This is the final year,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “He could have one to three fights left—that’s just the truth.”
With both boxers back in training, fans around the world are watching closely to see if the long-hyped Fury vs Joshua match finally becomes reality.
