Real Madrid’s La Liga title chase suffered a major blow on Sunday night after Getafe CF stunned the Santiago Bernabéu with a 1–0 victory.
The defeat leaves Real Madrid CF struggling to keep pace with leaders FC Barcelona, at a critical stage of the season.
Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring chances, Madrid failed to find the cutting edge, while Getafe made theirs count.
The decisive moment came in the 39th minute when Martín Satriano latched onto a loose ball inside the box and fired a first-time shot into the top-right corner, silencing the 65,104 fans inside the Bernabéu.
Madrid responded with waves of pressure but lacked precision in front of goal. Vinícius Júnior forced early saves from goalkeeper David Soria, while Gonzalo García missed a clear opportunity from close range.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aurélien Tchouaméni also tested Soria, who remained composed to protect Getafe’s slim advantage.
In the second half, Rodrygo came closest to rescuing a point for the hosts with a header that drifted narrowly wide. Franco Mastantuono had a late chance in stoppage time, but his effort was denied.
Frustration boiled over as the match drew to a close. Vinícius Júnior and Tchouaméni were booked, while Mastantuono was sent off deep into added time. Getafe were also reduced to 10 men after Adrián Liso received a second yellow card.
