British rapper and Netflix actor Ghetts is now facing fresh driving charges over the death of a 20-year-old student in Ilford, east London.
Ghetts, born Justin Clarke-Samuel, allegedly struck Yubin Tamang with his black BMW M5 on October 18 and drove off. Tamang, a Nepalese student at the University of Roehampton, died in hospital two days later.
Clarke-Samuel had earlier been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Prosecutors have now added two more dangerous-driving counts, all linked to the same night and the same area where the student was hit.
He appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday via video link from HMP Pentonville, wearing a grey T-shirt and joggers. The 15-minute hearing was administrative, and he did not enter a plea.
Tamang’s family, who travelled from Nepal to attend the hearing, watched from the gallery. They described him as “a very good person” and their “world”.
CCTV showed the student walking along Redbridge Lane East moments before the BMW struck him around 11:33pm.
Police arrested Clarke-Samuel at his home the next morning.
Ghetts, known for hits with Stormzy, Skepta and Ed Sheeran, and for his role in Netflix’s Supacell, remains in custody. He is expected to take a plea on December 8.
