Controversial social media commentator GehGeh has taken aim at the Grammy Awards following Nigerian music star Davido’s shock failure to win at the 68th edition of the prestigious ceremony.
In a now-viral video, GehGeh argued that the Grammy organisers have shown “continued disrespect” to Davido by repeatedly nominating him without any real intention of giving him the award. According to the influencer, the awards body uses Davido’s massive popularity in Nigeria and across Africa to boost its own profile but “they know they can never give him the trophy.”
GehGeh claimed he had warned the singer in the past against submitting his music for Grammy consideration and lamented that Davido’s desire to win has “worked against him,” even suggesting rival artists might be pleased with the outcome.
The fiery critique has stirred fresh debate online, with some agreeing the awards are biased and others saying global nominations still matter for Afrobeats artists.
