Nigeria’s Afrobeats king, Burna Boy, has suffered another disappointment at the 2026 Grammy Awards, losing the Best Global Music Album award to Brazilian music giants Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia for their live project, Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo.
The No Sign of Weakness singer was pitted against tough contenders including Siddhant Bhatia (Sounds Of Kumbha), Youssou N’Dour (Éclairer le monde – Light the World), Shakti (Mind Explosion, 50th Anniversary Tour Live), Anoushka Shankar featuring Alam Khan & Sarathy (Chapter III: We Return to Light), and Korwar.
This defeat follows Burna Boy’s earlier loss in the Best African Music Performance category, where Tyla, the South African singer, emerged victorious with Push 2 Start, outshining Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr.
Though the Grammys ended without a win for the Nigerian superstar this year, Burna Boy continues to command a strong international following, proving that Afrobeats remains a global force to reckon with
