Popular social media critic,VeryDarkMan, has accused GTBank of detaining him just before his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a video shared online, he explained that while visiting the bank to resolve an issue with his mother’s account, he was unexpectedly stopped by a security officer as he tried to leave. He claimed the officer had no explanation for blocking his path.
VeryDarkMan said an investigation showed his mother unknowingly took a loan of ₦200,000, which led to some confusion at the bank. As he attempted to exit the premises in his car, he said security operatives blocked his vehicle, fired gunshots, blindfolded him, and took him away in another vehicle.
He questioned GTBank’s role in the incident and threatened legal action against the bank for allegedly holding him against his will.
“The police didn’t even know why he stopped us. GTBank, you will explain why you held me hostage in your bank. I want to know why you did that for five minutes,” he said in the video.
His arrest sparked protests and calls for his release across social media, with celebrities and public figures joining the campaign. He was recently released on bail.
