Nigeria’s beloved culinary sensation Hilda Baci has kicked off preparations for her ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record this time with jollof rice. On August 23, 2025, she staged a test cook using an enormous 6-by-6-metre pot in Lagos, ahead of the official event slotted for September 12.
Footage from the trial went viral, fueling discussion across the country. While excitement brewed, so did concerns about hygiene. Social media users pointed out that several people around the pot weren’t wearing hairnets or masks, with comments like:
“This is so unhygienic. See how many people without hair covering or nose masks close to the food.”
“Na spit go full that rice… Shouldn’t they be wearing nose masks as well to make it healthy to eat?”
Still, others looked forward to the spectacleand the jollof. The upcoming event, branded the Gino World Jollof Festival, will transform Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos, into a cultural hub celebrating food, music, and community spirit
