Afrobeats singer Skales has credited his career resurgence in 2025 to a viral moment involving Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, who danced to his 2015 hit, “Shake Body.”

Speaking during a testimony at Harvesters International Christian Centre, Skales revealed that the video, which quickly went viral on social media, marked a turning point in his career, generating renewed interest in his music, exclusive invites, and a new tribute song.

“Earlier this year, I prayed a lot, I fasted a lot; I’ve never fasted like this year. I told God that He needed to bless me because I was being laughed at and my career just looked funny. I wrote down seven prayer points, and all of them happened in one day. The one that changed my life was when a kid in Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, did a simple dance step to my song, and it went viral and changed my whole life,” he said.

The viral clip became the catalyst for Skales’ career revival, propelling him back into the spotlight and rekindling interest in his music.

Following the viral moment, Skales was invited to perform at Barcelona’s Copa del Rey celebration, a prestigious club event. He also released a new song, “Dance Like Lamine Yamal,” as a tribute to the young football star.

Skales’ story highlights the unpredictable ways in which music can reach new audiences and underscores the impact of social media in revitalising careers, even years after a song’s initial release.
