Nigerian singer SpyrSpyroo has shared how his fear of failure made him believe he would “die broke,” blaming it on his father’s harsh words while growing up.

Speaking in an interview with TV host Frank Edoho, the Who Is Your Guy crooner said his father, who was a pastor, constantly told him he was a failure — a comment that deeply affected his confidence.

“I thought I was going to die broke. I always had this fear of failure, and my dad contributed to that because he always told me I was a failure,” Spyro said.

He explained that his father’s strict parenting style, common among pastors, made him live in fear of disappointing his family.

“I had already internalised what he used to say and started seeing myself as a failure. Looking at me now compared to how I used to be, I just know this has to be God,” he added.

Spyro also revealed that his mother was the one who supported his education after his father stopped paying his school fees because of his poor grades.

The singer, who is now engaged to his partner Janet Atom, said his journey is proof that “God can rewrite any story.”
