Nigerian actress Scarlet Gomez has opened up on the emotional toll of portraying the complex antagonist in MultiChoice’s popular television series Wura.

Speaking during a virtual press briefing ahead of the premiere of season four on March 30, Gomez revealed that therapy played a crucial role in helping her separate herself from her villainous on-screen persona.

Wura put me in situations that were very intense emotionally. I used therapy and leaned on my support system — my family and friends — to stay grounded,” Gomez said.

The actress, who plays Wura Adeleke, a powerful figure determined to dominate the mining industry even at the expense of her family, said the role brought her wider recognition but also required careful management to avoid being typecast.

“Even though Wura made people pay attention, I deliberately turn down roles that are too similar because I don’t want to replicate her,” she added.

Gomez also highlighted the broader impact of the series, saying it demonstrates the potential for female-led productions to succeed.

On what fans can expect from the new season, she promised a deeper emotional layer to her character: “This season, viewers will see Wura in a more vulnerable, human light. She faces challenges unlike anything before, and the emotional stakes are higher.”

Season four of Wura will consist of 130 episodes airing nightly on Africa Magic channels, continuing to follow the story of Wura Adeleke as she navigates power, ambition, and personal turmoil.
