Popular TikTok streamer Peller has finally broken his silence over the explosive Benin Palace scandal and his response is stirring even more reactions online.
The influencer, whose real name is Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja, found himself at the center of controversy after allegedly entering the palace of the Oba of Benin without proper authorization an act the Benin Traditional Council described as a serious breach of sacred protocol.
Speaking during a livestream, Peller insisted he did nothing wrong, claiming he was simply following instructions and had no idea he was violating any rules.
He said his manager directed him to visit the palace and maintained that he acted respectfully throughout the visit.
The situation, however, escalated quickly. The council reportedly sanctioned palace officials involved, suspended a chief, detained a staff member, and even placed a queen under disciplinary review for her role in the incident.
But that’s not all Peller is also battling a staggering N395 million lawsuit from a Lagos resident who accused him of defamation, cyberbullying, and invasion of privacy after allegedly recording and sharing a video without consent.
Reacting emotionally, Peller admitted he cannot afford the massive sum and pleaded for understanding. He said he has already apologized and begged for forgiveness, describing himself as someone who still needs guidance.
Despite his defense, authorities have summoned him to appear before a palace committee and issue a formal apology, warning that failure to comply could lead to legal action.
As the drama unfolds, Nigerians are divided—some sympathize with Peller’s “I didn’t know” stance, while others insist ignorance is no excuse when it comes to cultural institutions as sacred as the Benin Palace.
