Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has cried out over the rising cost of electricity in Nigeria, revealing that he spends about ₦40,000 every day just to power his home.

The 78-year-old actor made the revelation during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), where he lamented the country’s worsening power situation and the hardship many Nigerians are facing.

Edochie explained that the amount covers electricity units as well as fuel for his generators.

According to him, he spends ₦10,000 daily buying electricity units from the distribution company, ₦20,000 on diesel to power a generator and another ₦10,000 on petrol for a smaller generator.

“That brings it to ₦40,000 daily just to provide electricity in my house,” he said.

The veteran actor said the situation deeply worries him, noting that many Nigerians are silently enduring the same hardship.

“It disturbs me a big deal. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power. Nobody seems to be bothered about what’s happening to the common man,” he said.

At that rate, Edochie spends about ₦1.2 million monthly on electricity alone.

His comments come amid growing complaints from Nigerians over declining electricity supply across the country.

Many consumers, especially those on Band A, who are expected to receive up to 20–22 hours of electricity daily, say they now get barely five hours of supply.
