The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has initiated the rescheduling of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates impacted by technical issues during the initial exams. This decision follows widespread complaints and an internal audit that revealed significant errors in the examination process.
Affected candidates, primarily from Lagos State and the South-East region, have begun receiving notifications with new examination dates, times, and venues. The rescheduled exams are set to take place on Friday, May 16; Saturday, May 17; and Sunday, May 18, 2025.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, publicly apologized for the disruptions, acknowledging that 206,610 candidates in 65 centers in Lagos and 173,387 candidates in 92 centers across the South-East were affected. He described the situation as a “sabotage” of the UTME 2025 and took full responsibility for the setbacks experienced by the candidates.
The board has coordinated with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to prevent scheduling conflicts for candidates also participating in the ongoing WASSCE examinations. Candidates are advised to check their registered phone numbers and email addresses for updates and to reprint their examination slips accordingly.
This development comes amid concerns over the overall performance in the 2025 UTME, where over 1.5 million out of approximately 1.9 million candidates scored below 200 out of a maximum of 400 marks. The rescheduling aims to provide a fair opportunity for the affected candidates to achieve their academic aspirations.
