Nollywood heartthrob Jim Iyke just stirred the pot with a bold and some say controversial take on parenting. In a recent radio chat on Okay 101.7 FM in Accra, Ghana, he fired off: “A woman can’t raise a man. You can’t, you’re not built for it. A single mother cannot raise a man properly.”

According to Jim, while mothers excel at nurturing, they fall short when it comes to instilling discipline, toughness, and the kind of resilience a real man needs. He argues that a male presence whether it’s a father, brother, or trusted mentor is vital to shape a boy into a man.

He even shared a dramatic anecdote: chilling with his son at a beach in France, the little boy was bullied during a football game. He let the boy handle it alone and ended up tackling the bully to reclaim his ball a moment Jim called a proud display of manhood and discipline.

As expected, online reactions were fire:

“My mom raised all of us single-handedly after my dad passed none of us are weak men.”

“My grandmother raised five fine, successful sons on her own!”

The debate is heating up, with fans split on whether Jim Iyke’s comments are rooted in tradition or just plain old hot take energy.
