Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has apologised after mistakenly accusing American pop singer Chappell Roan of being involved in an incident with his 11-year-old stepdaughter.
The controversy erupted over a festival weekend in Brazil when Jorginho claimed a security guard linked to Roan had frightened his daughter. The allegation quickly went viral, drawing criticism toward the singer.
After reviewing new information, Jorginho admitted his initial claim was based on incomplete facts.
“After learning more about what actually happened, I realize I made a mistake. The person involved was not part of Chappell Roan’s team,” he said.
The midfielder explained that his reaction came from concern as a parent:
“In the moment, I was trying to protect my family, but I spoke too soon without having all the facts.”
Jorginho went further to apologise for the impact of his comments:
“I regret what was said and any negativity it brought. This was a misunderstanding, and I want to make that clear.”
Roan had earlier denied any involvement and expressed sympathy over the situation, stressing she had no knowledge of the encounter.
Jorginho concluded by urging the public to move on:
“There’s no need for hate toward anyone. Now that everything is clear, we can put this behind us.”
The incident, which briefly fuelled online backlash, has now been resolved, with both parties emphasising it stemmed from mistaken assumptions rather than any deliberate wrongdoing.
