Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has pledged financial support to organisations working towards justice for the late 13-year-old Ochanya, a victim of sexual abuse.
In an emotional post on her Instagram page, Baci expressed her sadness over the incident and highlighted the urgent need to protect the girl child. She also committed to donating N2 million to organisations that support survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
“A 13-year-old girl who should have been safe, loved, and protected was instead failed by the very people meant to guard her. As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers and are still here today, trying to find their way back to wholeness,” Baci wrote.
She urged her followers to help select two trusted NGOs to receive the donation, asking them to drop nominations or tag organisations in the comments for her team to review.
Baci also stressed the importance of accountability and action from society, noting that protecting the girl child must be a collective responsibility.
Her pledge comes amid a growing call from Nigerian celebrities and the public demanding justice for Ochanya under the hashtag #JusticeForOchanya.
