UFC star Kamaru Usman has shared a deeply emotional conversation he had with former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, recounting the tragic car crash that claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s close friends.

The discussion, captured in a video posted by Usman, took place while Joshua was recovering from injuries sustained in the crash ahead of an MMA event in Lagos on December 30.

Joshua survived the December 29 accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which killed Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. He was pulled from the wreckage and admitted to Duchess International Hospital for treatment.

In the video, Joshua, with bandages on his head and torso, told Usman that the reality of the loss has yet to fully sink in. He described his friends’ positions in the car and the heartbreak of losing them, saying the moment “still hasn’t hit me.”

Reflecting on the fragility of life, Joshua said, “Life is short, man, life is short. And now look, I get to speak with you for the first time.” Usman responded, “We thank God,” acknowledging the gravity of Joshua’s loss.

Joshua also reflected on the public eye, saying the accident made him realise how much people watch, judge, and support him, even amid grief.

Since his discharge, Joshua has returned to the United Kingdom. On Sunday, he posted a photograph standing with the families of the deceased, captioning it “My Brother’s Keeper”, showing solidarity and support during a moment of mourning.

The video offers fans a rare glimpse into Joshua’s private grief, his reflections on life, and the emotional toll of surviving the crash that changed everything.
