In a powerful move to reclaim agency and creativity, Nollywood legend Kanayo O. Kanayo has just launched his official YouTube channel, promising authentic storytelling that rejects the industry’s obsession with “fine faces.” The veteran actor emphasized that it’s performance not appearance that should define success.

On Instagram, the 63-year-old star didn’t hold back warning that sidelining skilled actors in favor of fashionable influencers is a problem Nigerians have seen before. He called out the cycle of favoritism repeating itself, fueled by sponsors and self-styled YouTube celebrities, and lamented how it’s suffocating true talent.

“I have decided to take my destiny into my own hands Movie-making is not about being a fine face. It’s about being a good actor, a good performer”

“What happened years ago is beginning to rear its ugly head. The acclaimed YouTube faces  killing the talent in the industry.”

Kanayo held out an open invitation to rising stars: “If you are a new face, let’s create magic on the Kanayo O Kanayo TV on YouTube.”

This move aligns him with Nollywood heavyweights like Ruth Kadiri, Omoni Oboli, and Funke Akindele, who have also turned to YouTube as a way to connect directly with fans and produce content on their own terms.
