Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculation linking him to a summer move to Real Madrid, describing the rumours as “nonsense.”
The 58-year-old, who left Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season and now serves as head of global football for Red Bull, was reportedly being considered to replace Alvaro Arbeloa.
Speaking at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation in Munich, Klopp said: “If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now. But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there, you can ask him. They haven’t called him either.”
While dismissing the Madrid rumours, Klopp did not rule out returning to coaching in the future. “For my age I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned,” he added.
Klopp, who managed Liverpool from October 2015 until 2024, led the club to its first league title in 30 years in 2019-20 and won the Champions League in 2019. During his tenure, he also lifted the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He made it clear, however, that he will never manage another Premier League club: “What I know definitely is that I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100%. That’s not possible.”
Before his time in England, Klopp won back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012 and also managed Mainz 05.
