Barcelona have dismissed rumours that goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen could leave the club in the January transfer window.

Sporting director Deco stressed that the German international remains part of the club’s plans. “There’s no January plan around Ter Stegen exit. If he was fit, he’d probably be playing — he’s our captain,” Deco told Mundo Deportivo.

He also explained that the signing of Joan García from Espanyol was not to replace Ter Stegen but to secure the team’s future. “Joan García was about the present and the future. Signing him wasn’t ‘against’ Ter Stegen; it was smart planning.”

Ter Stegen, who has been Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper for almost 10 years, is sidelined with injury but continues to be a leader in the squad. Known for his shot-stopping and ability to play with the ball at his feet, he has been a key figure since taking over after Victor Valdés’ departure.
