The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, over reckless driving and an alleged suicide attempt.

Police said the arrest followed a video that went viral on Sunday, December 14, 2025. In the video, Peller was seen driving at high speed during a live social media broadcast before crashing his car.

The police described the incident as a serious road accident caused by dangerous driving. They said Peller’s actions put his life and the lives of other road users at risk.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command said the suspect’s conduct amounted to an attempt to take his own life and could have led to loss of innocent lives.

Peller has been taken into custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

“The case is currently being investigated by the SCID. At the end of the investigation, the suspect will be charged to court in line with the law,” the police said.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned social media influencers and content creators against using dangerous or illegal acts to gain online attention.

He said social media must not be used to promote reckless behaviour that could lead to loss of lives or disturb public peace.

The police also advised motorists to obey traffic rules at all times, stressing their commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order in Lagos State.
