Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, has confirmed that the club is planning to honour Lionel Messi with a statue at the new Camp Nou stadium.

Speaking on Thursday, Laporta said, “Leo Messi deserves to have a statue at the new stadium. We will prepare a design, talk to the family, and if they agree we can proceed with that.”

The announcement comes as Barcelona continues work on its modern stadium project, aiming to celebrate the club’s greatest icons. Messi, widely regarded as one of football’s all-time greats, spent over 17 years at Barcelona, winning numerous domestic and international titles.

Fans and pundits have welcomed the news, seeing it as a fitting tribute to Messi’s legendary contributions to the club.

No timeline has yet been provided for when the statue will be unveiled, pending approval from Messi’s family and final design plans.
