Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he will meet Mohamed Salah on Friday morning before deciding if the forward will play in this weekend’s match against Brighton.
Salah recently accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” and said he has no relationship with Slot after being left on the bench for last week’s 3-3 draw at Leeds, the third straight game he did not start.
The 33-year-old also did not travel for Tuesday’s Champions League match at Inter Milan, which Liverpool won 1-0. Instead, he posted a photo of himself training alone at the club’s gym.
Slot, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said:
“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning. The outcome of that conversation will decide how things look tomorrow. The next time I speak about Mo should be with him, not here.”
He added that talks had already taken place earlier this month after Salah started on the bench in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, involving Salah, his representatives, and the club.
Slot refused to give further details but said:
“I have no reason not to want him to stay.”
Salah is expected to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations after the Brighton match at Anfield.
The forward, who is third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League with the club. However, he has scored only four goals in 13 league games this season.
Liverpool, champions last season, currently sit 10th in the Premier League after a poor run of form.
